Prepare a Jewellery Inventory Session Before You Begin
A short preparation step can make a jewellery record session calmer and more consistent.

A short preparation step can make a jewellery record session calmer and more consistent. Before opening boxes, choose a small group of pieces to work on and set out a clean surface, a pen, blank notes and any paperwork already available. A modest starting point is easier to finish than a whole collection.
Check that the table has enough light and space to keep one piece separate from the next. Put receipts or certificates nearby only when they relate to the selected items. If a detail is not known, leave it for later instead of trying to settle it from memory. This prevents guesses from becoming part of the record.
Work through one item at a time. Take the notes you need, place each document back with its matching item or in a clearly identified folder, then move to the next piece. Use a temporary tray for items still waiting for a record, and clear it at the end so it does not become a second unsorted pile.
Before stopping, review what you completed and write down the next small group to handle. A simple session checklist can show which pieces have a basic record and which still need a photo or document. It is a practical way to pace the work without suggesting that a record is complete or professionally assessed.
