In one family, a pair of earrings might be called “Paati’s jhumkas.” Another relative may know them as the gold earrings worn at a wedding. Both descriptions can point to the same piece, but searching a record under only one name may cause confusion later.

Choose one short main name for the item, then add familiar alternate names in its notes. Keep identifying details with it too: a clear photo, the type of piece, any documented weight or karat, and a receipt or family note if available. If two pieces look similar, mention a visible difference rather than relying on a family nickname alone.

For example, a record might use “small floral earrings” as the main name and note “Paati’s wedding earrings” as another name used by the family. That way, someone who remembers either description has a useful place to start. If relatives disagree about a name or history, record the different accounts as notes instead of presenting one uncertain detail as settled fact.

AurumSafe helps you organize jewelry photos, receipts, karat, weight and notes together. Add the names your family actually uses, and update the record when you learn a clearer detail.
