Gold value

24K vs 22K vs 18K: estimating gold value in SGD and INR

Understand gold purity, choose the right per-gram rate, and keep estimated metal value separate from a sale quote.

Two necklaces can weigh the same and contain different amounts of gold. Purity is one reason their estimated metal values differ.

Before making an estimate

  • Check the documented purity and whether the weight includes stones.
  • Choose a rate with a stated currency, date and purity.
  • Identify whether the rate is a reference rate, retail selling rate or buyback quote.
  • Use the rate for the correct purity. Do not adjust it twice.
  • Keep the result labelled as an estimate, separate from the purchase price.

For illustration only, 10 grams multiplied by a hypothetical 22K rate of S$100 per gram gives S$1,000. It is arithmetic, not today’s price or an offer to buy the piece. Keep INR receipts in their original currency even when reviewing estimates in SGD.
